US government backs water project in Kenya


The Cabinet Secretary for Water and Irrigation Hon. Eugene Wamalwa accompanied by his two Principal Secretaries Prof.Fred Segor, State Department for Water Services and Patrick Nduati Mwangi of State Department for Irrigation Services held a bilateral meeting with US Ambassador to Kenya, H.E Robert Godec on November 1st, 2016
The meeting focused on USAID’s help to over 2 million Kenyans to access water, Sanitation, and hygiene services over the past five years. The support has been achieved through Sustainable Water and Sanitation in Africa (SUWASA), Kenya Arid Lands Disaster Risk Reduction (KALDRR) WASH Program and APHIA.
New programs under implementation include the Kenya Integrated Water Sanitation and Hygiene(KIWASH) a flagship project to support 9 Counties of Kitui, Makueni, Nairobi, Migori, Nyamira, Kisumu,Siaya, Busia and Kakamega at $50.9million within five-year projection.
USAID helped over 2 million Kenyans access water, sanitation, and hygiene services over the past five years – and this support is trending upward with larger investments in water, sanitation, and hygiene in Kenya. Now, over 1.1 million Kenyans have access to potable water and over 900,000 Kenyans have access to sanitation and hygiene services.
